Between The Sun And The Moon an Artwork by Quinda VerheulBetween the sun and the moon, captures Quinda’s admiration for landscapes and how they move and change over time by both natural and artificial powers. In this installation she intended to capture a world that’s both knowable and yet an entire universe we have never been before. The artwork refers to the idea that everything is one and each grain is connected to one bigger unity.

Tedious Times
Tedious Times(R)EVOLUTION @scigalleryrdam opened and is now open for public. In collaboration with @rotterdamsterkerdoor and @gemeenterotterdam "Tedious Times" was created. Youngsters in Rotterdam had the great idea to get together and paint and draw their memories from Corona times. Reflect together and share thoughts after a period being apart. I designed a space that could hold these memories captured on tiles, and created a structure that could grow along with the project. A modular way of building that can expend with potential of more shared memories. This artwork can travel anywhere, as worldwide we have memories of this period and by the universal language of art we can express and share that period together. I'm honoured to create such a piece in collaboration with youngsters, as I believe these memories are part of a monumental period of time that has changed and shaped all of us. And this is just the start, the more tiles the bigger the structure will be.

Maassluis: 2 september – 16 sept. 2018, Theater KoningshofVlaardingen: 22 september – 7 oktober 2018, Kade 40Schiedam: 13 oktober – 4 november 2018, Stedelijk Museum

N E V E R L O S T
N E V E R L O S TFor this exhibition, Quinda Verheul aimed to raise questions about the true meaning of a (natural) landscape; on Earth, in space.. If you cannot go to certain places, planets, or other worlds, you can only speculate about what those landscapes will look like. In ‘Never Lost’ Quinda explores this idea by creating her own versions of an imagined world whereby various aspects of larger themes are brought together. A whole is formed in which everything is related to everything. She experimented with new techniques and materials that led to new visual translations of a world imagined. The results are evident in a new series of large, black sculptures reminiscent of eroded and weathered fragments of mountains. In this, one can discover strong references to existing landscapes that Quinda previously visited, such as Utah and Iceland. Yet, her work retains a certain mystery, something intangible. The holistic idea of the universe as one interacting entity was put forward in the work of Alexander von Humboldt (1769 – 1859). After reading his biography Quinda grew a fascination for his legacy. As a geographer, naturalist, explorer and advocate for romantic philosophy and science he was truly influential for the way the western world views the world today. This exhibition will feature works in which she explores this concept, putting forward the idea that everything is more connected than one might think. The stars, the planet, drastically changing landscapes, and humans in the midst of it all.
