The New Current 2020
Spaanse Kubus, February 4 - 9
A former parking garage in Spaanse Polder, an industrial area in Rotterdam, literally made room for young makers during Art Rotterdam Week, 4-9 February 2020.
During the exhibition, the artists examined the space between human experiences and digital technologies, which seem to move increasingly further away from our natural reality. With an area of 2.000m2 at their disposal, the makers were literally given the space to make site-specific and entirely new work during Art Rotterdam Week, commissioned by The New Current. With this grand, non-commercial exhibition, the artists got the rare chance to present themselves and create large and engaging work.
Participating artists: Quinda Verheul, Teun Wolters, Ana Brumat/Henrietta Muller, Oana Clitan, Nikki Hock, Jochem Esser/Boris Acket/Vincent Rang, Roland Spitzer, Jan Kuhlemeier, Cem Berendsen, Alexander van Bakel, Sarah Amrani, Freerk Wilbers, Federico Murgia, Ai Hashimoto, Kim Nuijen, Johan Roelofs, Julie Patard, Sandy Harry Ceesay, Sunna Svavarsdottir, Oana Clitan, Lara Bruggeman.
The work shows a continuous deviation that rhythmically returns. The work is a metaphor for a mysterious emptiness that always demands our attention. Excavated landscapes that provide us with minerals and raw materials. Looking at the void does not work. That reflection of denial, our own contributions to destruction.
OPEN Rotterdam

Studio Visit TNC
The New Current visited the studio end of the summer to ask me more about my artistic practice and her newest work for The New Current.
Very grateful for their trust and the support by CBK Rotterdam to create a new work for this show. On show during The New Current 2020 (4-9 Febr) at Spaanse Kubus.

Where did this stone come from and what happened to that site now? How did it get here? These questions were the startingpoint of my talk about my practice. Honoured to be invited and share my projects with the wonderful audience of BlueCity Rotterdam.

The New Current x Art Rotterdam Week

The New Current organisation partnered up with other initiatives with the goal of expanding opportunities for young artists. One of these partnerships is a collaboration with Qade, Solo Projects and Art Rotterdam Week in Februari 2019.
During the Art Rotterdam Week 2019 The New Current presents a special exhibition and performance program. During five days The New Current will present 15 young, talented artists in a thematic exhibition, complemented with various performers, at the Cruise Terminal Rotterdam. Art Rotterdam Week is one of the countries best known and internationally visited art weeks and therefore a valuable place to present the young talents of today.

The New Current is a Rotterdam based platform for artists at the start of their career. The organisation produces a yearly thematic exhibition solely with works of artists that graduated no longer then five years ago. With an additional program around networks expansion, entry to the market and professional development, The New Current responds to the current situation within the art market. The domination of large galleries and art fairs creates a difficult position for starting artists who want to enter it. With the additional demise of smaller art spaces that focus on experimental presentations, it’s becoming even more challenging for young talents to develop, present and prove themselves. With The New Current we want to offer young and promising artists a new, much needed platform.
Studio visit of Lukas Göbel
Lukas Göbel and his colleague visited my studio and took some wonderful captures me walking around.
Part of B.a.d. lab Test Results 3
B.a.d Lab: Test Results is a series of short exhibitions in which invited artists and B.a.d members experiment with forms of exhibiting.
For this edition, we proudly present Willem de Haan, Quinda Verheul, and Kamiel Verschuren. All three artists work in different ways to interact with their public, both inside and outside of art spaces. Therefore, they will literally step out into the open while using the B.a.d Lab as a base.
Visitor information: Please come to the B.a.d. building on Saturday 27 October at 4pm. At 5pm, there will be an excursion to a location near Foundation B.a.d. Neighborhood residents are also invited to join.

Happy Park(ing) Day
SELECTED PAINTING BY SCHIEDAM STEDELIJK MUSEUM
Presentation of public space work "Reflection Eternal" during Charlois Speciaal
Tijd: zat 9 juni 13:00-15:00 | zon 10 juni 13:00-16:00
